About public transportation

From our place you can reach Paris either with the subway line 7 or the RER line C, information about tickets can be found here.

Kids under 4 travel for free, those between 4 and 10 pay half-price.

Subways leave every 5 minutes, for the RER train it’s every 15 minutes

Things you must know :
  • The tickets system has changed in 2025 and is now much simpler. Basically a bus/tram ticket is 2€, and a Subway/RER is 2€50, no matter what your destination is (airports excepted). You can by tickets on your phone and more information can be found here.
  • Otherwise you can buy a Daily Pass  if you plan to travel a lot on the same dans, or a plain weekly Navigo Pass (all zones option) and you’ll be able to travel on all networks alike (Ivry is in zone 2).
  • On your way back home on line 7, be careful to board on a train riding toward «Mairie d’Ivry» (yellow light), since one half of the trains go to «Villejuif» (blue light). The line parts in two after station «Maison Blanche» :
  • On you way back home on line C, make sure your train stops in Ivry since it is not alway the case (there is a panel with the list of the train stops on the platform, your train should be called ROMI or MONA).
  • Every year, in the middle of summer (roughly from july 15th to august 20th) there are some construction work on the RER line C. Between the «Invalides» and «Gare d’austerlitz» stations there are some replacement busses instead of trains. So the direct connections from Ivry with the RER are not so direct anymore. Where to eat ?

Some restaurants near from home where we like to go with the family (they do takaway too)
  • Viet37, a recently opened vietnamese family restaurant in rue Marat. (n°1 on the map)
  • Al Dakbe, a lebanese restaurant next to the subway station (2) and our favorite place to eat out.
  • Tokyo Sushi, also in rue Marat (4), has a classic japanese menu with sushi and yakitoris.
  • Le Soleil, is a recently renovated restaurant in the city center and they make great pizza (5)
  • Lilia's coffee, is a lovely tiny japanese coffee where you can have onigiris for lunch and matcha cookies (6)
  • The Bear Café has nice burgers so it's another meeting point for the family (7)
  • There's a large portuguese community living in Ivry, if you're interested in trying portuguese food you can go to San Miguel, an old family restaurant a bit farther from our place (8). Since they serve huge plates you better make sure you are hungry when going there.

Reaching Ivry-sur-Seine from the parisian railway stations

If you arrive in Paris by train from abroad, you're very likely to end in one of these four stations, Gare du Nord (if you travel with Thalys or Eurostar), Gare de l'EstGare de Lyon, or Gare d'Austerlitz. Here's how to reach Ivry once you're out of the train :
  • From Gare du Nord, take the RER B line southward (direction Robinson/St Rémy-lès-Chevreuse), in St Michel Notre-Dame change for the RER C line eastward (direction Massy Palaiseau-Dourdan-St Martin d'Etampes & Co). While on the RER C platform remember to check that your train stops in Ivry before boarding ! (its final destination should be Massy Palaiseau or Pont de Rungis). Get off in Ivry-sur-Seine.
  • From Gare de l'Est, ok that one is really easy, just take the subway line 7 southward (direction Mairie d'Ivry, these are the yellow light trains), and get off at the final station Mairie d'Ivry.
  • From Gare de Lyon, take the subway line 14 direction Olympiades and change in Bibliothèque François Mitterrand. From there take the subway line 7 southward (direction Mairie d'Ivry, these are the yellow light trains), and get off at the final station Mairie d'Ivry.
  • From Gare d'Austerlitz, simply take RER C line eastward and get off in Ivry-sur-Seine.

Things to buy

  • In the center you have a Carrefour supermarket (sometimes a bit crowded so we don’t often go there). (1)
  • For organic food you have two Naturalia shops, one in rue Marat, next to the bakery and the butcher (2), the second one on rue Gabriel Péri (3)
  • Nearby there's a Picard for frozen food (and they do surprisingly god macarons) (4)
  • The wine shop, La Cave d'Ivry,  in rue Marat is very good if you want to bring back home a few bottles. (5)
  • There is a market for fresh products (fruits, vegetables, fish or meat) in front of the city hall on tuesday and friday morning and on wednesday afternoon (after 4pm).(6)

Reaching Ivry-sur-Seine from the parisian airports and back

Depending on the company you'll be flying on, your plane will either land in the Roissy-Charles de Gaulle or the Orly airport (Be careful not to book a flight landing on the Beauvais airport, since reaching it from the south of Paris is a considerable waste of time !).

Ivry is much closer to Orly than Roissy, so if you have a choice, you should book a flight landing there. Anyway here are the instructions for reaching Ivry from both airports.
  • If you plane lands in Orly: Congratulation ! Just take subway line 14 northward (toward St Denis), then in Maison Blanche take subway line 7 toward Mairie d'Ivry (that's a train with a yellow light) and get off at the final station.
  • If you plane lands in Roissy: Ok, it's a much longer trip (around one hour and half), but not very complicated. Just take the RER B line toward Paris, in St Michel-Notre Dame change for RER C toward Pont de Rungis or Massy Palaiseau and get off in Ivry-sur-Seine (once again, make sure your train stops there before boarding !). The total one-way fare costs 11,90 € and tickets can be bought at automats in the airport (be careful not to buy tickets for Paris, since they are not valid in Ivry, which is in zone 2).
When leaving Ivry for Roissy, take the RER C at the Ivry-sur-Seine station towards Paris, get off in St Michel-Notre Dame and take the RER B towards Aéroport Charles-de-Gaulle. Tickets can be bought at the RER station, and you should plan around two hours to reach the airport (once again it should be less but you're better safe than sorry...)
